Long Abandoned

Off the dirt trail momentarily, we hiked several hundred feet along a paved road and passed two old, abandoned buildings – a brickworks plant and a burned out ceramics business.

Just what is it that makes a dull, dreary scene that much more special when traveling?  I’ve questioned this a few times on this journey – and that’s just it! It’s the journey!  It’s those places that get passed by only once. (Plus, the overcast weather further emphasizes the dreariness of the closed plants).

Then again, those who know me well get that I like this stuff.  NC is rich in textile/tobacco mills/factory history, and the state remains strong in brick-building.
